About The Role
The position encompasses broad non‑operative and operative surgical care, mainly relating to the alimentary tract, trauma and critical care, endocrine and breast diseases, cancer surgery and endoscopy. At Manning Base Hospital, a rural/regional site, the position requires skills to cover these areas (elective and emergency) as part of a local team with networked escalation pathways.

About The Department
As a General Surgeon with Manning Base Hospital, you will be part of a collegial and deeply committed team focused on improving patient care without compromising staff health and happiness. Standard 1:4 on‑call arrangements exist. Theatre time is adequate to ensure patients' access to surgery and to ensure adequate exposure.
The Surgery Department includes 4 General Surgeons and a Urologist. The nursing staff in theatres and on the ward are experienced and knowledgeable. Allied Health support is readily available. We are a teaching site with Royal Australasian College of Surgeons accreditation for training – 2 accredited trainees and 2 unaccredited trainees. In addition, the department has 2 interns/Resident Medical Officers. Manning Hospital is affiliated with the Joint Medical Program of The University of Newcastle and The University of New England.
