Purpose of this Position
The HSE Lead is a hands-on safety champion, responsible for setting and executing HSE strategy, objectives, and programs by working closely with our Operational Regional Leadership team to ensure close alignment to our operational outcomes.
This role is ideal for someone who has worked their way up from Advisor level, understands operations inside out, and thrives on being visible and engaged with frontline teams to drive strategy and output.
Who This Role Will NOT Suit
This is not a head office role. If you prefer working behind a desk, have not gained experience through hands- on operational roles, or are seeking a senior or regional leadership position, this may not be the right fit.

Proven experience leading and implementing HSE strategies that drive operational safety and compliance, with a track record of empowering managers and frontline teams.

Key Responsibilities
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Strategy & Leadership
Set and execute HSE strategy, objectives, and programs aligned to internal stakeholder needs and operational outcomes.
Be a visible safety leader, regularly present on site, engaging directly with drivers, workshop teams, and port staff.
Coach and mentor managers, supervisors, and frontline teams to build safety ownership and accountability.
Systems & Compliance
Maintain and continually improve management systems to meet legal obligations and regulatory standards.
Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and standards (WHS, Chain of Responsibility, fatigue, vehicle maintenance, load restraint, Mining Regulations).
Support the implementation of fatigue management strategies and adherence to company policies.
Incident & Injury Management
Drive injury management, incident investigation quality (ICAM or equivalent), risk assessment, assurance, and performance reporting.
Oversee injury management, workers' compensation, and return-to-work programs.
Operational Engagement
Conduct WHS/HSE audits, inspections, and governance reviews aligned with industry standards.
Review and support the HSE Advisors to develop and facilitate HSE training, inductions, and
toolbox talks.
Analyse HSE performance data and identify risk and improvement trends
Qualifications & Experience
Cert IV or Diploma in Work Health & Safety (minimum).
Minimum 7+ years' hands-on HSE experience in Heavy Vehicle Trucking Operations and liaising with NHVR or equivalent. (Experience liaising with DMIRS, Maritime Safety authorities, and other regulators a benefit).
Strong working knowledge of WHS/HSE legislation, codes of practice, and risk frameworks.
Proven ability to influence leaders and drive safety culture.
Current First Aid
Preferred - ICAM or similar Incident Investigation Methodology Training, Return-to-Work Coordinator certification, Auditor in WHS Management Systems
Preferred - Experience working up from Advisor level, with a deep understanding of operational environments.
