About the Team
The Certifier & Integrity Unit is responsible for audits and investigations under the Building and Development Certifiers Act 2018. We monitor and enforce compliance among registered certifiers, including private certifiers, council officers, building surveyors, and swimming pool inspectors, to ensure high standards and protect the community.

About the role
The Manager Investigations leads the Certifier & Integrity Unit within Building Compliance, overseeing audits and investigations under the Building and Development Certifiers Act 2018. This role provides strategic leadership and operational direction to ensure compliance, protect the NSW community, and maintain high standards of regulatory practice.
You will manage high-profile and complex investigations, develop systems and processes to uplift team capability, and collaborate with senior leaders and stakeholders across government and industry.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide operational leadership to establish a culture of accountability, teamwork, and innovation in regulatory services.
* Manage and oversee high-profile investigations, offering strategic advice and recommendations to inform compliance decisions.
* Develop and maintain systems, policies, and processes to ensure continuous delivery of regulatory services.
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation, emerging risks, and regulatory frameworks.
* Build and sustain effective partnerships with internal stakeholders, state and federal agencies, and industry bodies.
* Assess intelligence and recommendations to inform planning and future regulatory activities.
To Be Successful You Will:
* Understand NSW certification and planning legislation.
* Have substantial experience in formal investigations and regulatory compliance.
* Hold a Certificate IV in Government Investigations (or equivalent).
* Demonstrate strong leadership, stakeholder engagement, and decision-making skills.
* Possess knowledge of compliance frameworks and enforcement strategies.
* Qualifications in Building Surveying and Certification are desirable.
Essential Requirements:
* Satisfactory criminal record check and ongoing probity screening.
* Regular travel throughout NSW (with occasional interstate travel).
* A valid NSW driver's licence throughout employment.
