About This Opportunity
The School of Biomedical Sciences (SBMS), within the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Behavioural Sciences at the University of Queensland (UQ), is one of Australia's largest and most research‑intensive biomedical schools. We are seeking motivated and collaborative academics to strengthen teaching and research programmes through continuing (tenure‑track equivalent) appointments at Academic Level B (Lecturer) or Academic Level C (Senior Lecturer).
These positions are balanced teaching‑ and research‑focused roles in the broadly defined discipline of Biomedical Sciences, with candidates from anatomy, physiology and/or developmental biology particularly encouraged to apply. You will contribute to high‑quality research, inspire the next generation of biomedical scientists through teaching and laboratory supervision, and actively participate in the academic life of the School. Multiple positions may be offered, depending on experience and expertise of the applicants.
Base salary ranges are: Academic Level B – $117,120.53 – $138,769.70 + 17% superannuation; Academic Level C – $143,099.52 – $164,748.70 + 17% superannuation.
Location: St Lucia Campus.
Key Responsibilities
* Teaching: deliver and coordinate high‑quality lectures, tutorials, and practicals across undergraduate, honours, and postgraduate programmes; contribute to curriculum design, assessment, and student guidance; and follow UQ teaching policies.
* Research: develop and maintain a research programme in Biomedical Sciences; publish in reputable journals, present at conferences, seek and manage external funding, and collaborate with colleagues, students, and external partners.
* Supervision and researcher development: supervise and mentor honours and Higher Degree by Research students; promote responsible research conduct; and provide guidance, feedback, and professional development.
* Citizenship and service: contribute to School committees and decision‑making; foster internal and external partnerships; provide collegial support and mentoring; undertake administrative responsibilities; and uphold UQ values.
Qualifications
* Completion of a PhD in a relevant discipline.
* An established research profile in Biomedical Sciences with national recognition and a developing international profile.
* A strong record of publishing in reputable refereed journals and presenting at conferences.
* Demonstrated experience seeking, obtaining and managing external research funding (commensurate with opportunity).
* Experience delivering high‑quality teaching across undergraduate, honours and postgraduate settings.
* A track record of curriculum development, course coordination and continuous innovation in teaching.
* A growing record of supervision of honours and Higher Degree by Research students to successful completion.
* A growing record of meaningful internal service roles and contributions to external academic or professional activities.
For a Level C appointment the candidate must also demonstrate an established international research profile, successful leadership of competitive research funding, supervisory leadership of HDR students, and significant contributions to academic leadership and service.
