Professional Support Coordinator - RMA / Legal Practitioner
Sydney NSW (Hybrid) Full-Time / Part time / Casual (possible multiple positions available for the right candidates)
Main Duties & Responsibilities
The Migration Institute of Australia's (MIA) is a leading Australian professional association of Registered Migration Agents (RMA) and immigration lawyers. The MIA's Professional Support function provides expert advice and assistance to MIA members (RMAs and legal practitioners) and internal teams. Professional Support Coordinators play a key role in delivering high‐quality guidance on migration‐related matters, supporting member services and contributing to the development of professional resources.
* Provide assistance to MIA members' professional and practice inquiries
* Maintain effective external relationships with the Department, Skills Assessing Authorities, MIA sponsors and other relevant stakeholders
* Contribute to the Professional Support section's knowledge base through attendance at section and other internal meetings, researching current issues and maintaining currency of professional legislative knowledge
* Assist the team with production of member professional support resources including MIA Notices, Bulletins and submissions
* Support other MIA operational units including MIA education and membership functions through the provision of professional advice as required
* Participation in MIA conferences, member sessions and functions as required
* Other duties as directed
Skills & Experience
Qualifications
* Registered Migration Agent (current or previously registered), or
* Legal Practitioner (current or previously admitted), or
* Relevant experience with the Department of Home Affairs may be considered in lieu
Experience and Skills
* Minimum of 3 years relevant previous experience as a Registered Migration Agent, legal practitioner or equivalent (e.g., Department of Home Affairs officer)
* Strong, broad knowledge of Australian migration legislation and processes
* Superior ability to interpret and apply Australian migration legislation
* Demonstrated proficiency in a range of IT systems, including Legendcom, CRM platforms, AI‐enabled applications and the Microsoft Office suite
* Strong written and oral communication skills with ability to identify and communicate complex issues clearly and appropriately
* Highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills, with a demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Strong commitment to providing high levels of service to members and ability to adapt style to a range of members and stakeholders
* Ability to communicate with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds
* CPD presentation or adult education experience or qualifications an advantage, but not essential
