StrokeSafe Community Engagement Volunteer in Launceston / Northern Tasmania. Education & Training, Health. Volunteer role supporting StrokeSafe Community Education Program and related activities.

Overview

Stroke Foundation"s StrokeSafe Community Education Program aims to raise the profile of stroke as a major health issue and the role of Stroke Foundation in fighting it. A key component is stroke prevention and awareness activities, including StrokeSafe Talks delivered to community groups, workplaces and events across Australia. Talks are delivered by trained volunteers to raise awareness of what stroke is, how to reduce stroke risk and how to recognise the signs of stroke (using the F.A.S.T. test). Training and presentation resources are provided to ensure consistent implementation across Australia. Volunteers may assist in delivering community events and national programs as required, including:

* Australia's Biggest Blood Pressure Check (May)
* National Stroke Week (August)
* Education sessions at health and wellness events
* Displays at other community events such as shopping centres or festivals

Responsibilities

* Complete a minimum of 7 events/talks per calendar year. Talks can be online (Microsoft Teams) and/or in-person.
* Deliver endorsed messages in StrokeSafe presentations in a consistent and approved manner.
* Distribute relevant resources at each talk.
* Assist with Stroke Foundation events, including setting up a promotional table, assisting with questionnaires, and distributing Stroke Foundation resources and information.
* Process relevant reimbursement claims in a timely manner and provide any required supporting material.
* Notify the TAS Community Engagement Coordinator of issues promptly or if availability changes.
* Note: Volunteers are not permitted to provide medical advice or answer medical questions.

Your background, skills and experience

* Excellent verbal communication skills, with the ability to deliver clear information to diverse audiences. Public speaking experience is highly regarded.
* Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, PowerPoint, Outlook) and other common software.
* Confident using Microsoft Teams for virtual meetings and online StrokeSafe talks, including basic troubleshooting.
* Willingness to learn StrokeSafe Program content and present only approved information.
* Access to a car (travel reimbursement available) and willingness to travel if necessary, within or outside of your local area (highly regarded).
* Ability to work respectfully with others, valuing diverse perspectives.
* Enthusiastic, confident and positive approach to community engagement.
* Punctual, reliable and well presented.

Work, Health and Safety Responsibilities

* Contribute to a healthy, positive and supportive work environment.
* Comply with Stroke Foundation's Work Health and Safety Policies and Procedures and complete all necessary compliance policies.
* Adopt safe work practices that comply with WHS requirements and avoid actions that place others at risk.
* The physical requirements of the position (or any limitations) will be discussed prior to commencement.
