New Porgera Limited (NPL) is a company incorporated in Papua New Guinea and owns the Porgera Gold Mine in Enga Province. The Porgera Gold Mine will employ nearly 3,000 Papua New Guineans at full production, and over the last 30 years of life of the mine it has contributed approximately 10% of Papua New Guinea's total annual exports.
About the role
We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Production Engineer – Underground to join our Underground Mine Engineering Services team. Reporting to the Superintendent - Mine Engineering Services, this opportunity supervises the Underground Production Engineering team comprising of short-term scheduling, backfill, projects & ventilation engineers and dispatch department, to enable the achievement of short & medium term mine plans in partnership with the underground operations team. This includes providing the UG operations team with all the required daily plans and tracking reports that assist them to deliver safely to target, as well as reporting of underground mine performance to all required stakeholders.
Key responsibilities include developing practical extraction plans that align with strategic objectives, optimising ore extraction, and monitoring performance. The role involves collecting and analysing data to assess performance, statutory compliance, and system efficiencies, while recommending improvements and supporting planners in sourcing and integrating inputs for short and medium plans, budgets, and forecasts. Ensuring consistency and alignment across planning horizons and effectively communicating plans is essential. The position also leads change management and business improvement initiatives, including developing Standard Operating Procedures, while conducting data and financial analyses to identify, justify, and support approved improvement opportunities. A strong focus on health, safety, and environmental compliance in line with NPL policies is required.
About you

Given the dynamic environment, you must demonstrate agility and an ability to work effectively under pressure, understand and meet deadlines, and manage 'a few projects well' simultaneously.
To succeed in this role, you must have tertiary qualifications in mining engineering supported with significant experience (minimum five years as a Senior Engineer) in underground mine production planning engineering including drill and blast, development of short term schedules (7/21), ensuring they are realistic and achievable. Stope note process, level extraction plans and infrastructure planning NPL operates Deswik, a high level of proficiency is required.
You and your team will monitor performance, being naturally curious, collecting and analyzing performance data, including production statistics and equipment trends, to identify areas for improvement. Exposure to dewatering/water management and ventilation is highly desirable. Prior knowledge of Papua New Guinea's regulatory environment and community dynamic is highly desirable. You will lead the team in line with NPL policies and standards whilst measuring and monitoring the functions performance, establishing and delivering to world-class practices.
You will demonstrate a 'One Team' approach, providing effective leadership, training, guidance, support and development for your local team to reinforce NPL's culture and values, always promoting a safe work environment, driving collaborations with Operations, Geology and Maintenance teams. The position requires a high energy individual, hands-on management style and desire to continuously improve you and your team's knowledge and systems and methods of work.

This role is offered on a FIFO basis either from Papua New Guinea, Australia/New Zealand with a 21/14 roster on a contract basis with a highly competitive remuneration package.
