The Role: As a Heavy Vehicle Mechanic in our Service Team, you'll be crucial in providing mechanical services on customer trailers and prime movers, with a key focus on safety, quality, and efficiency. Key challenges in this role include providing services to the agreed quality levels in line with our company values, whilst maintaining and improving a safe working environment. The position reports directly to the Workshop Supervisor. What You'll Do: Perform the tasks allocated by the Workshop Supervisor. Train other team members in tasks assigned to you that they're not yet competent in. Collaborate with the team to investigate and resolve quality issues and make recommendations towards developing and improving work instructions and Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs). Take a proactive approach to improve your workshop output efficiency and quality. Ensure all completed tasks are quality checked, ensuring all associated paperwork is completed, parts are compiled and returned to the Workshop Supervisor. Always record all materials used on the task. Conduct risk assessments on high-risk tasks, identifying methods for risk mitigation. Assist others when requested and encourage teamwork to support a motivated and competent team operating at maximum efficiency. Undertake all types of mechanical work as directed by the Supervisor; this will include servicing trailers and prime movers. Perform mechanical and general appearance reconditioning of trailer equipment. Repair suspension, alignment, electrical and light welding/fabricating if experienced. Repair or replace heavy-duty trailer brakes, bearings, and air systems. Remove and fit axles and suspension components. Ensure all correct torque wrench specifications are adhered to. Maintain work area appearance and safety. Road test trailers when necessary, if licensed. Demonstrate proficiency in the use of all tools of trade (including shop machines and power tools) required. Carry out work within the set time estimated to the customer. If the time set cannot be achieved, then promptly raise it with the Workshop Supervisor. Report all injuries, incidents, and near-miss incidents to the Workshop Supervisor. Maintain compliance with company and/or industry standards within health and safety. What You'll Bring: Trade qualification or equivalent. Experience in an automotive, heavy vehicle, transport industry or commercial plant maintenance role. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work well in a team environment. Knowledge of heavy trailer brake and air systems. Expertise in best practice maintenance.
