Manager Engineering and Asset Intelligence

Tasmanian Irrigation Pty Ltd

Launceston, Tasmania | Full-time

About Tasmanian Irrigation

Tasmanian Irrigation Pty Ltd is a State‐owned company responsible for developing and operating irrigation schemes that support water security and agricultural productivity across Tasmania. The organisation works closely with irrigators, communities and government to deliver safe, reliable and sustainable water services in a variable and changing climate.

Tasmanian Irrigation currently manages 21 irrigation schemes across the state, with an infrastructure portfolio valued at approximately $680 million, encompassing dams, pipelines, pump stations and associated assets that underpin agricultural and regional economic development.

The Opportunity

Tasmanian Irrigation is exclusively partnering with Searson Buck to appoint an experienced engineering leader to join the organisation as Manager Engineering and Asset Intelligence. Reporting to the General Manager Customer and Operations, this role sits at the intersection of engineering governance, asset intelligence and digital enablement, providing technical leadership and assurance across the organisation's infrastructure portfolio. It offers an opportunity to influence how engineering systems, asset data and lifecycle strategies support reliable service delivery, operational excellence and long‐term financial sustainability.

The Role

The Manager Engineering and Asset Intelligence is responsible for leading the governance, integration and optimisation of Tasmanian Irrigation's engineering systems, asset intelligence and technical frameworks. The role ensures that asset data, engineering standards and digital platforms are aligned to support safe, reliable and efficient water delivery, while enabling evidence‐based decision‐making across operations, asset management and long‐term infrastructure planning.

Working closely with operations, capital delivery and customer functions, the Manager will provide engineering leadership across asset lifecycle planning, maintenance strategies, system optimisation and automation. This includes governance of SCADA, telemetry and control systems, oversight of engineering standards and assurance processes, and support for operational capital works, renewals and upgrades. The role also contributes specialist technical advice to operational decision‐making, incident response and continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring infrastructure performance and system resilience across all schemes.

The Person

You will bring extensive experience within asset‐intensive environments such as water, utilities, infrastructure or energy, supported by tertiary qualifications in engineering. Your background will demonstrate strong capability in asset management principles, engineering systems governance and the use of asset intelligence to inform lifecycle planning, risk management and investment decisions. Experience with SCADA, automation or integrated engineering systems is essential, along with the ability to lead technical assurance processes in regulated environments.

You are a confident and analytical leader who can translate complex technical information into practical, value‐focused outcomes. You work well across multidisciplinary teams, manage external technical providers effectively and bring a disciplined, safety‐focused approach to engineering governance. Experience in digital transformation, system integration, ISO‐aligned asset management frameworks or hydraulic modelling will be highly regarded.

The Offer

This role offers the opportunity to take on a senior technical leadership position within an organisation delivering essential services to communities across Tasmania. You will work in a collaborative environment with scope to shape engineering systems, asset intelligence capability and long‐term infrastructure outcomes, while contributing to operational excellence and financial sustainability.
