The Policy Branch in the Work Safety Group is currently recruiting for an experienced and motivated Assistant Director to join the Workplace Legislation and Policy Team. The Workplace Legislation & Policy Team is responsible for ensuring that the legislative frameworks for workers’ compensation, workplace safety, dangerous goods and industrial relations are operating efficiently and support reductions in the health, social and economic impact of work injury. It also monitors and oversees the performance of the Territory’s private sector workers’ compensation scheme, represents the Territory at local and national forums covering work health and safety, injury management and industrial relations matters. As Assistant Director you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the ACT Government continues to deliver accurate, timely and professional advice to support operational, legislative and stakeholder requirements. In the role you will have the opportunity to: Assist in the development and delivery of advice on high-level legislative policy and legislative issues related to workers’ compensation, workplace health and safety, and/or industrial relations. Assist in the development and implementation of multiple key projects. Undertake research and analysis to assist with the review, improvement and development of policy and legislation. Prepare ministerial reports, briefs, submissions, speeches and other complex documents for the Government, ministers and the directorate. Liaise with stakeholders and clients, both internal and external to ACT Government, and build productive working relationships. Represent the ACT Government and the directorate as required. The successful candidate will: Have highly developed written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work with people across different levels. Be experienced in delivering legislative policy reforms with strengths in utilising critical thinking and problem solving skills. Be a collaborative team player and also able to work autonomously. Be organised and solutions focused. This position is in a workplace designed for activity-based work (ABW). Under ABW arrangements, officers will not have a designated workstation/desk.
