Position Summary:
The Cook is responsible for assisting the Head Chef in the preparation and presentation of high-quality meals for members, guests, and events at the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania (RYCT). This role requires a commitment to maintaining excellent food standards, hygiene, and efficient kitchen operations while contributing to a positive team environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Prepare and cook menu items as directed by the Head Chef.
* Ensure food quality, presentation, and portion control meet RYCT standards.
* Maintain a clean and hygienic workspace in compliance with food safety regulations.
* Assist in menu planning, stock control, and inventory management.
* Follow all kitchen procedures, including food storage, preparation, and waste management.
* Support the Head Chef in training and mentoring junior kitchen staff.
* Assist with catering for club events, functions, and special occasions.
* Adhere to workplace health and safety standards, reporting hazards as necessary.
* Work collaboratively with the kitchen and front-of-house team to ensure smooth service.
Skills & Experience:
* Previous experience in a similar cooking role within a restaurant, club, or hospitality setting.
* Knowledge of commercial kitchen operations and food safety standards.
* Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
* Strong teamwork and communication skills.
* Attention to detail and a passion for producing quality food.
* Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
* Formal culinary training or relevant certifications
