Overview

Join our team as a Patient Support Officer and help us maintain a high standard of care at the Queensland Children's Hospital. In this vital role, you'll be responsible for providing efficient and effective cleaning and portering services to support clinical operations and infection control.

About the Role

- Cleaning duties (including infectious environments)
- Utilise IT platform software and devices, such as iClean, to track extra tasks and monitor cleaning status
- Undertake general and periodic cleaning of all clinical and non-clinical areas within QCH and surrounding facilities, ensuring tasks are performed in accordance with CHQ procedures and standards, Infection Control Guidelines and the Strategic Operational Services Unit (SOSU)
- Work professionally and respectfully within the multidisciplinary team to complete tasks efficiently and effectively, supporting patient-centred care
- Undertake specific tasks within the facility, which may include, but are not limited to, cleaning and making beds, and removing and replacing curtains
- Assisting clinical staff with safe patient positioning, including lifting, turning, and mobilising patients, using appropriate patient handling techniques, under the supervision of a clinical staff member
- Supporting healthcare professionals by performing non-clinical tasks related to patient care, including transporting patients between areas using beds, trolleys, or wheelchairs
- Removal and transportation of general, clinical, and recyclable waste
- Identifying and segregating waste into the correct streams
- Delivering clean linen to designated areas and collecting soiled linen for appropriate disposal or laundering
- Transporting medical and other equipment throughout the hospital
- Monitoring and maintaining portable medical gas cylinder supplies across the facility
- Managing the respectful and dignified handling and transfer of deceased patients from wards or units to the hospital mortuary
- Maintain the healthcare environment in accordance with the Strategic Operational Services Unit (SOSU) and occupational health and safety obligations
- Engaging in relevant training opportunities and ensuring the timely completion of all mandatory and requisite training
- Additional specific training can be provided for upskilling. This may include, but is not limited to, porterage, waste, and sustainability services
- Supporting the growth of others and assisting the development of new team members through mentoring, open mindset and knowledge sharing
- Work rotational shifts (e.g., day, evening, and night) on a 7-day roster, including weekends and public holidays, as required depending on shift and area
