The Role
Southern Ports is recruiting a Marine Pilot to join their team based in Esperance.
As a Marine Pilot with Southern Ports, you'll play a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient movement of vessels through the port.
Reporting to the Harbour Master, you'll provide expert pilotage and berthing services, supporting the safe navigation and docking of ships.
You'll also offer technical and operational advice to management and clients, contributing to the smooth delivery of all marine operations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct safe and efficient pilotage of vessels, demonstrating a high level of proficiency in ship handling and navigational skills.
Progress through pilotage levels to achieve restricted, intermediate, and unrestricted pilotage approvals within required timeframes.
Maintain pilotage licensing requirements in compliance with the Port Authorities Act Regulations **** and the Harbour Master's standards.
Ensure all port and berthing operations are conducted safely and in accordance with relevant marine regulations and procedures.
Provide expert advice on marine operations, including navigational aids, marine infrastructure, and operational planning.
Carry out any other duties and tasks as assigned by the harbour master
Participate in emergency and oil spill response activities, maintaining readiness and completing associated training and qualifications.
Required
Master Class 1 qualifications and relevant industry experience
Demonstrated high level experience and success in managing complex marine operations.
High level of ship handling experience and pilotage
Strong communication skills (oral & written) including strong negotiation and influencing skills and the ability to establish effective working relationships with a variety of people at different levels both internally and externally
Knowledge and understanding of shipping, and port operations
State, National and International legislations affecting shipping and ports
Be able to manage high level of cognitive load
Preferred
Pilot License from another port.
Experience in the areas of ship scheduling, port planning, navigation aids, pilotage, hydrographic surveys and dredging
Command experience as vessel master

The successful applicant must:
Be able to obtain and maintain a Maritime Security Identification Card
Pass a pre-employment medical assessment including drug and alcohol testing
Provide a National Police Certificate that is within a 6-month period.
