Database Manager Job Description
This position is responsible for leading the database team and overseeing the strategy, performance, and security of enterprise database platforms. The successful candidate will play a key role in defining standards, implementing best practices, driving automation, and collaborating across teams to deliver reliable, high-performance data services.
Key Responsibilities:
* Design and implement database architectures that align with business goals, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
* Collaborate with software engineers and IT teams to deliver and support integration solutions.
* Provide technical guidance and mentorship, leading design and architecture discussions across projects.
* Conduct capacity planning and forecasting to ensure database infrastructure supports business growth.
* Develop strategies for database performance tuning, backup and recovery, query optimization, indexing, and data governance.
* Research and implement emerging technologies and recommend tools or best practices to improve infrastructure performance and efficiency.
* Identify and manage risks related to database software and infrastructure, ensuring proactive mitigation.
* Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards, maintaining proper documentation and controls.
* Develop and maintain business continuity and disaster recovery plans, ensuring readiness in case of disruptions.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience Required:
* 10+ years' experience in Database Administration (Oracle, MS SQL, MySQL) with 3+ years in leadership/team management role.
* Expert in Oracle RAC, Data Guard, RMAN, and SQL Server HA/DR solutions.
* Strong experience with cloud databases (AWS, Azure, OCI) and large-scale enterprise deployments.
* Proven skills in performance tuning, automation (Terraform/Ansible/Jenkins), and scripting (Bash, PowerShell, Python).
* Hands-on experience with installation, configuration, patching, and upgrades of Oracle (19c/21c+) and SQL Server (2016–22).
* Familiarity with logistics IT/OT integration, microservices architecture, and IT frameworks (ITIL, Agile).
