Salary

$111,580- $118,000 plus 12% superannuation.

About The Role

The Safer Community team plays a critical role in fostering a safe, respectful and inclusive environment for students and staff across Bendigo Kangan Institute. As the Safer Community Practice Lead, you will provide specialist expertise in responding to complex student safety, behavioural and conduct matters. Working closely with educators, support services and operational leaders, you will assess risk, coordinate responses and help strengthen the Institute's capacity to manage challenging and sensitive situations through a trauma‐informed and student‐centred approach. This is an opportunity to contribute to a growing function that is focused not only on responding to incidents, but also on building a culture of safety, accountability and respect across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

* Provide expert guidance on complex student safety, behavioural and conduct matters.
* Partner with staff and leaders to navigate sensitive situations and achieve positive outcomes.
* Build strong relationships across student support, teaching and operational teams.
* Deliver education, awareness and prevention initiatives that strengthen community safety.
* Contribute to policies, procedures and frameworks that support best‐practice responses.
* Identify emerging trends and opportunities to improve safety, engagement and support services.
* Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with legislative and organisational requirements.

About You

You are a skilled practitioner who can confidently navigate complex and sensitive situations while balancing empathy, professionalism and sound judgement. You may come from a background in social work, psychology, behavioural support, community services, education, youth justice, corrections or another environment where you have managed complex cases involving risk, safety and vulnerability.

To Be Successful In This Role, You Will Bring

* Demonstrated experience managing complex cases involving safety, behavioural, conduct or wellbeing concerns.
* Strong risk assessment and case management capability.
* Experience working with vulnerable and diverse cohorts.
* The ability to build effective relationships and influence a broad range of stakeholders.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to manage difficult conversations.
* A commitment to trauma‐informed, culturally safe and person‐centred practice.
* Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Criminology, Behavioural Science or a related discipline will be highly regarded.

Things We Will Require From You

* Relevant compliance documents including Working with Children Clearance (WWCC), current police check, certified right to work documentation.
