Where you’ll be working

Based in the Oncology Day Unit at Armidale Rural Referral Hospital, you’ll join a state‑of‑the‑art cancer centre serving the northern half of Hunter New England. Opened in 2015, this purpose‑built facility delivers a full range of oncology and haematology services in a warm and supportive environment. Armidale, set high on the picturesque New England Tablelands, offers all the lifestyle benefits of a regional centre with vibrant arts, cultural activities, and world‑class education options.

About the role

As a Registered Nurse in the Oncology Day Unit, you’ll provide secure and compassionate care to adult patients undergoing treatment for oncological and haematological conditions. This busy 8‑chair, 1‑bed unit operates Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays), delivering high‑quality outpatient care in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. You’ll work alongside Clinical Nurse Consultants, a Nurse Practitioner, a McGrath Cancer Nurse, and Oncology Educators, ensuring patients and their families receive excellent support throughout their treatment journey. Supernumerary shifts at commencement will support your transition into the role, and ongoing oncology‑specific training will be provided.

Eligibility List

We are looking to build an eligibility list of passionate and dedicated Registered Nurses who are eager to join our Oncology team. Whilst we currently have permanent part‑time and temporary part‑time positions available, this list will also help us identify and connect with qualified candidates for future opportunities as they arise. By joining our eligibility list, you’ll be among the first to be considered for upcoming roles, ensuring you don’t miss the chance to be part of a team that delivers exceptional, compassionate cancer care.

About you

You are a proactive and compassionate nurse with a strong commitment to patient‑centred care, bringing relevant experience in acute care nursing. While oncology or haematology experience is desirable, it is not essential, and motivation to learn and build expertise in these specialties is highly valued. Accredited in cannulation (highly desirable), you enjoy working in a supportive and collaborative team environment and can adapt in a busy clinical setting while maintaining professionalism and empathy throughout your practice.

Requirements

- Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse
- Relevant postgraduate qualifications in oncology nursing (or working towards)

What we can offer you

- Support from other staff in the unit including NP and CNCs plus Oncology Specific Educators. All relevant training and education required for HNELHD will be provided.
- Access to The Welcome Experience – settle into your new community with all the support you need to embrace rural NSW.
- Paid parental leave (for eligible employees) – giving you the opportunity for true work‑life balance.
