In line with our 'more gold, sooner' strategy and recent acquisition of the Lakewood Processing Facility (Lakewood), we are seeking a motivated, not-afraid-of-a-challenge, hands on UG Manager to develop our UG Mining Operations in Kalgoorlie.
With plans to commence underground mining within the third quarter of 2025, the UG Manager will lead the UG mining department in planning, coordinating, scheduling and controlling all UG mining activities within agreed capital and operating budgets, aligned with the overall business strategy.
The position is FIFO from Perth or residential from Kalgoorlie with a negotiable roster. Our processing plant (Lakewood) is ~6km from Kalgoorlie with our mining operations located within a 40km radius from the centralised processing facility.
About the Opportunity
Reporting to the General Manager, and an integral member of the Site Leadership team, you will be responsible for managing and improving the day-to-day operations, building and developing a capable Technical Services Team and overseeing the UG Contractor. You must be committed to a positive, safe and fun workplace culture through:
· Effectively managing risk, and the health, safety and wellbeing of team members.
· Providing direction, setting clear goals and expectations, and holding people to account.
· Ensuring the right resources, equipment, and training are provided.
· Developing and managing budgets and financial forecasts related toopen pit mining activities.
· Collaborating with engineering and geology teams to develop and execute operational plans.
· Collaborating with OP mining and processing teams to maximise revenue from different ore types being processed.
· Conducting regular site inspections and audits to ensure statutory requirements, and operational and safety compliance is maintained.
About You
Key to success will be leading with a collaborative attitude, encouraging knowledge sharing, and being visible, caring and engaged with an ability to act with humility. Additionally, you need to have the following:
WA Underground First Class Mine Managers Certificate of Competency and a degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent
Experience in underground mine management, with production and planning experience, in a mechanised hard-rock underground mine.
Strong user of mine planning and scheduling software packages preferably Deswik.
Proven leadership and technical ability in leading a team including managing multidisciplinary employee / contractor workforces
Experienced in operational budgets, and cost management.
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage with various stakeholders.
Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of industry risks, legislative and statutory requirements, and the importance of balancing operational efficiency, quality, health and safety, and environmental requirements.
Experience working for a similarly sized company and/or an understanding of limitations and constraints and a requirement to be hands on, that provides challenges and opportunities, whilst growing a junior company is desirable.
