The Role
The acquisition of conventionally-armed, nuclear-powered submarines is an historic and transformative endeavour for Australia. The whole-of-nation effort to safely and securely deliver the cutting edge nuclear-powered submarine program will transform Australia's economic and national security landscape for decades to come.

This unique opportunity will see you directly contributing to Australia's strategic Defence outcomes during an important time in our defence history. The Australian Submarine Agency (ASA) Virginia Program Office (VPO) supports the delivery of critical projects under the Nuclear Powered Submarine Program by providing strategic advice to ensure the compliant acquisition of critical aspects of Australia's sovereign nuclear powered submarine capability.

The Virginia Program Office is central to maintain ASA's relationships with AUKUS Partners through the development and management of Australia's most critical Foreign Military Sales (FMS) cases and naval nuclear reactor arrangements. As an APS 6 Capability Analysist within the Virginia Program Office (VPO) Governance Directorate, you will play a diverse and exciting role covering various aspects of project governance, assurance and compliance.

This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in ASA as a Building Capability Payment (BCP). This enables ASA to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the ASA Enterprise Agreement, for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to ASA capability. For further information, please contact the contact officer.

About our Team
The VPO Governance Directorate provides vital support across Phases 1 and 2 of the Optimal Pathway not only to purchase major military items from the US, but to ensure strict adherence with government to government arrangements relating to combat systems and other military capabilities.

There will be opportunities to support projects through:

* The provision of advice to ensure internal compliance with export control laws and regulations, ensuring adherence to an Agency wide compliance program,
* Contributing to project budget development and management,
* Supporting project assurance and the standardisation of project development and delivery,
* Drafting briefing material to meet project outcomes,
* Undertaking audit and assurance activities across branch work streams, and
* Assisting in the drafting of intergovernmental arrangements and agreements including for Foreign Military Sales and in support of naval nuclear reactors to further critical trilateral relationships with AUKUS partners.
Our Ideal Candidate
We are a dynamic organization seeking employees who are agile, innovative and energised by high-paced work. We are seeking highly motivated and collaborative minded people who will have the opportunity to contribute to a once in a lifetime program.

To be a successful candidate, you will need to demonstrate:

* The ability to work across multiple projects, with the willingness to actively take on challenges necessary to meet deadlines within strict timeframes.
* Build and sustain collaborative and positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders and negotiate effectively to deliver outcomes.
* Strong problem-solving skills exercising sound judgment whilst being able to professionally and confidently manage personnel through effective delegation and task management.
* Use highly developed analytical skills to assess and provide robust advice regarding issues impacting the achievement of desired outcomes.
* Be accountable for accurate completion of work within timeframes, sharing own expertise with others and guiding and mentoring team members to achieve continuous improvement in the work area.
* Outstanding attention to detail while thriving in a fast paced and flexible environment.
