Overview
Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent candidates are invited to join Blacktown City Council as 2 Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Apprentice Heavy Vehicle Mechanics. This is a full-time, term contract apprenticeship commencing January 2026 for up to 4 years, with the goal of obtaining a nationally recognised trade qualification (Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology).
During the first 3 years, you will receive on-the-job training; the 4th year will be purely practical experience, with support from qualified tradespeople. Salaries and conditions are in accordance with the Blacktown City Council Enterprise Agreement.
Who Can Apply
- Applicants must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent through parentage, identify as such, and be accepted in the community. Exemption is claimed under Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
- Applicants must be minimum 16 years of age or older.
- Not currently at school or home-schooled.
- If currently enrolled in school or home-schooled, you must have:
- Completed year 10 or equivalent.
- Provide written approval to proceed from a school principal or NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) or an authorised person acting in lieu of a school principal.
- No prior experience required.
- Ability to obtain a class C driver’s licence when able to.
- Australian citizenship or eligibility to work in Australia (evidence required).
