Defence Digital Group (DDG), Engineering Branch is seeking highly experienced and technical Cloud Solution and/or Platform Engineers who will lead the planning, designing and execution of solutions related to Defence's enterprise cloud platforms.
DDG Engineering Branch is responsible for providing and applying technological principles to create, manage and maintain digital systems and infrastructure in a scaled agile framework (SAFe). Our aim is to reduce the complexity and remove legacy systems to improve efficiency, reduce costs and enhance agility.
You will follow best practices for ICT architecture, cyber security and performance, and execute cloud migration and modernisation strategies and drive the move from legacy systems to modern, efficient, cloud-native solutions for Defence by:
Working closely with stakeholders to ensure the right problems are solved in the right way;
Design and deliver high-quality solutions within the Defence ICT landscape;
Align solutions with business strategy and drive best practices in implementation;
Identify and implement improvements to existing solutions and processes.
The Department will be creating merit pools to fill vacancies across the Organisation over the next 18 months.
This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DECA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. About our Team
You will be part of a team of ICT professionals delivering complex projects across key digital domains in both the Military and Enterprise Systems Divisions within Defence Digital Group (DDG).
In this role you will be a leader, provide technical expertise and mentorship to junior team members in a matrixed construct, as teams and individuals embedded into projects as needed.
As a Digital Engineer in DDG you may either:
Lead a team of ICT professionals experienced in key technology platforms/products, or;
Work individually on projects as the technical engineering SME.

Our Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidates will demonstrate strong experience in:
Designing and deploying cloud infrastructure using AWS or Azure services following the Well-Architected framework;
Implementing infrastructure-as-code on Azure and AWS;
Cloud networking configurations and deployments (e.g. VPC, Subnets, Route tables, Transit Gateway, Route 53, Direct Connect, DNS, VNet, ExpressRoute);
Implementing policy based guardrails and security control policies on Azure and AWS;
DevSecOps, CI/CD pipelines and tooling;
Containerisation technologies like Docker and Kubernetes based orchestrators on EKS, AKS and OpenShift;
Collaboration with security, application, data, and network engineering teams to deliver integrated platform capabilities;
Developing and enforcing cloud best practices, standards and patterns, aligned to technology blueprints and organisational goals;
Cloud security principles, including managing Identity and Access Management (IAM) roles, policies and ensuring network security;
Proven ability to deliver quality-focused business outcomes;
Collaborative team player who values diverse perspectives and enables team success;
Coaching and mentoring team members and sharing knowledge.
