Responsibilities
The specialist will provide expert medical assessment and management of patients within the department/service.
Patients will be admitted under a senior medical officer (general physician or geriatrician). The senior medical officer will review the patients, determine a management plan and follow the patient through their HITH admission. There will be communication with referring medical officer and the HITH team.
The primary location of this position may be varied as agreed with the Director of Medical Services and as approved by MDAAC to other facilities in SESLHD.
Support and participate in teaching for undergraduate and postgraduate students and other staff of the hospital.
Demonstrate capacity to work with a multidisciplinary health care team and communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and staff; provide high standard clinical care in the public sector setting.
Engage in quality improvement activities and, where relevant, research aligned to the Department's needs.
Qualifications and Selection Criteria
Registration or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA). Provide AHPRA Registration Number on application.
Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or equivalent specialist recognition as provided by the Health Insurance Act 1973 and relevant Award/Determination; demonstrated subspecialty training in General Medicine and/or Geriatric Medicine.
Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices aligned with the scope of practice.
Proven capacity to provide high quality clinical service; involvement in quality improvement activities relevant to the specialty.
Commitment to teaching with experience in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students and other staff.
Demonstrated professionalism, ability to work with medical and health service colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary team, and effective communication with patients and staff.
Experience and commitment to research relevant to the role and Department needs.
