The Position
We are seeking a Career Medical Officer – Psychiatry (Dual Disability) to join a multidisciplinary mental health team on a permanent, full-time basis (76 hours per fortnight) in Hobart.
This role focuses on delivering high-quality mental health care to patients with intellectual disability and psychiatric comorbidities, working in line with National Mental Health Standards and relevant legislation.
You will operate with a high level of autonomy while remaining accountable to the Dual Disability Consultant Psychiatrist, and play a key role in clinical assessment, treatment planning, and collaboration with families, carers, and external stakeholders including the NDIS.

The Department of Health Tasmania delivers comprehensive public healthcare services across the state, including major tertiary hospitals such as the Royal Hobart Hospital, Launceston General Hospital, North West Regional Hospital, and Mersey Community Hospital.
The service also spans over 300 sites, providing integrated care across mental health, community health, primary care, and ambulance services, ensuring strong support networks and collaborative clinical environments.

General or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA)
Extensive experience in Dual Disability, including psychiatry of intellectual disability and adult psychiatry
Demonstrated understanding of the Guardianship and Administration Act 1995
Experience working with the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), families, and consumers
Ability to work autonomously within a multidisciplinary team environment
Eligibility to act as an approved Medical Practitioner under the Mental Health Act
Strong understanding of relevant legislation, policies, and clinical governance frameworks Desirable:

Salary: $128,750 – $183,340 per annum (pro rata)
