About the Position:
An opportunity exists for a Physical Testing Laboratory (PTL) Supervisor to join our team based in Emerald.
Lead day-to-day operations within our Coal Preparation Laboratory.
Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will play a critical role and be responsible for day-to-day supervision of the section in respect to quality, turnaround time, client service, productivity and human resources.
Your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
* Supervise and support staff within the section, fostering strong performance, engagement, and future succession
* Allocate and manage section work priorities in consultation with the Operations Manager
* Ensure efficient operation of the section, delivering accurate results within required turnaround times
* Liaise with mine-based coal quality and technical stakeholders to support testing outcomes
* Oversee maintenance, calibration, and reliability of coal preparation equipment to minimise downtime
* Optimise use of chemicals and consumables, reducing waste and operational inefficiencies
* Drive ongoing training and development to maintain high standards, morale, and retention
* Ensure compliance with QWIs, CBMs, and housekeeping standards while identifying opportunities to improve productivity through process, technology, or equipment enhancements
What We’re Looking For:
* A tertiary qualification or 3–5 years’ experience in a similar supervisory or laboratory-based role
* Experience with, or strong aptitude for, equipment calibration and maintenance
* Proven technical capability and supervisory skills suited to leading a laboratory section
* Strong customer focus with a commitment to quality service and responsiveness
* Excellent planning and organisational skills, with a high attention to detail
* Strong verbal, written, and computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office
* Valid driver’s license
