Overview

The Yugunga-Nya Native Title Aboriginal Corporation (YNPBC) is the Registered Native Title Body Corporate (RNTBC) for the Yugunga-Nya People. We hold and manage native title rights over more than 21,000 square kilometres in the Mid-West and Murchison regions of Western Australia, including Meekatharra and Cue. Our mission is to protect and preserve Yugunga-Nya land, heritage, and culture, while creating pathways for economic empowerment through employment, training, and business development.

Role

YNPBC is seeking a passionate and enthusiastic Heritage Consultant to join our small heritage team. You will support Heritage staff and Traditional Owners in conducting heritage surveys, site recordings, and cultural heritage assessments, contributing to the protection and management of significant cultural landscapes.

Responsibilities

- Conduct heritage surveys, often in remote and rugged environments.
- Assist with site recording, mapping, and data collection using GPS and digital tools.
- Prepare field notes, photographic records, and contribute to heritage reports.
- Work closely with Traditional Owners, anthropologists, and heritage advisors.
- Ensure compliance with relevant heritage legislation and internal policies.
- Support logistics and planning for field trips, including equipment preparation and safety checks.

Selection Criteria / Qualifications

- A bachelor’s degree in archaeology.
- Excellent working knowledge of the Aboriginal Heritage Act 1972 (as amended).
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.
- A genuine passion for working with Aboriginal communities and protecting cultural heritage.
- Willingness to travel regularly and work outdoors in remote locations.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
- Basic report writing and mapping skills (GIS experience is a bonus).
- Respect for cultural protocols and a commitment to ethical practice.
- A valid C-Class Manual Australian Driver’s Licence.
- A recent, valid, and clear National Police Clearance.
