Offer description

AST Oceanics is looking for a Master (with a minimum of <45m Near Costal) to join our team on a casual / part time basis. It will be living onboard a vessel for 1 week of every 8 weeks and living onboard vessel for 4 weeks once per year. We are looking for a candidate (preferably Darwin based but must be residing in Australia) on a casual basis to support our current Master and some deckhand duties. Would suit someone semi-retired or wanting casual work.

Qualifications & Experience

* Master <45m Near Costal
* AMSA Medical / Near Coastal Medical
* Relevant STCW
* Previous Master/Deckhand experience on vessels
* Knowledge of logistics preferred as deliveries and some warehousing work maybe required
* Desirable Working Safely at Heights & Confined Spaces
* Experience working with Safety Management Systems
* Right to work in Australia and must reside in Australia
* Good safety culture
* Ability to self-manage and work as part of a team

Responsibilities & General Duties

* assist current vessel master/engineering in general maintenance and house keeping including some deckhand and general ship keeping duties
* Supervision of contractors where required
* Pick up deliveries and some warehousing work maybe required
* Ensuring that the Crew perform their duties in accordance with the Master's instructions, AST Oceanics Pty Ltd policies and the requirements of the Integrated Management System.
* Ensure safety and environmental practices are applied on board at all times
* Ensure Contractor compliance and Ship-specific safety inductions including the allocation of muster stations
* Ensure on board training and drills are scheduled and conducted
* Ensure appropriate watchkeeping schedules are established, adhered to and maintained in a manner which allows for the safe operation of the ship and which avoids crew fatigue including completing hours of rest.
* that prior to performing any operation, all crew involved understand the scope of work, how it is to be safely performed and their role or responsibilities
* Ensure Ship Safety Meetings, pre-start & toolbox meetings are conducted and recorded.
* all Integrated Management System required documents and records are appropriately maintained
