We are recruiting an experienced Senior SMP Estimator to join a well-regarded construction and infrastructure contractor delivering major projects across the Resources and Infrastructure sectors. This role is ideal for someone with strong site and estimating exposure across structural, mechanical, and piping (SMP) scopes who enjoys building competitive tenders and supporting successful project delivery.
You will play a key role in developing accurate cost estimates, supporting bid submissions, and working closely with engineering, procurement, and construction teams.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare detailed SMP cost estimates covering structural steel, mechanical equipment, piping, platework, and associated installation scopes.
* Develop take-offs, labour norms, material pricing, and subcontractor comparisons for tenders and project budgets.
* Work closely with project managers, engineers, and construction teams to understand scope, methodology, and constructability.
* Analyse drawings, specifications, and project documentation to identify risks, exclusions, and opportunities.
* Assist in the preparation of tender submissions, clarifications, and commercial inputs.
* Review supplier and subcontractor pricing to ensure competitiveness and compliance with scope requirements.
* Track estimate assumptions and support cost control and forecasting during project execution as required.
* Contribute to continuous improvement of estimating tools, databases, and standard practices.
* Ensure all estimating activities align with company procedures, safety standards, and quality requirements.
About You
* Trade or tertiary qualification in Estimating, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
* Minimum 7 years' experience in SMP estimating within resources, mining, oil & gas, or heavy industrial construction.
* Strong understanding of structural steel, piping systems, mechanical installation, and fabrication methodologies.
* Ability to interpret engineering drawings, isometrics, and specifications with confidence.
* Experience working for contractors or EPC/EPCM environments is highly desirable.
* Strong commercial awareness with attention to detail and accuracy.
* Confident communicator who can collaborate effectively with internal teams and external suppliers.
