About the Opportunity
Ward 1A (Cardiac/Stroke/Medical) is committed to achieving the SWSLHD Vision of Leading care, healthier communities. Staff in the department uphold the core values of Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment.
Ward 1A is an acute medical ward with 30 beds, and is part of the Chronic and Complex Care Stream. Current staffing includes a Full time Nurse Unit Manager (NUM), Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) and a Clinical Support Officer (CSO) along with Registered Nurses, Endorsed Enrolled Nurses, Enrolled Nurses and Assistants in Nursing.
Ward 1A also plays a major role with the universities, by providing clinical placements for students from disciplines of both medicine and nursing. Along with acute medical services Ward 1A has three specialty services - acute stroke and cardiac step down patients, end of life care. Within the 30 bed ward we have the capability of cardiac monitoring 8 patients in accordance with acute stroke guidelines and cardiac policy.
The Ward is closely linked to Coronary Care unit at Fairfield Hospital as a step down unit for cardiac patients. The 8 telemetry units in 1A are used on patients admitted with TIA/Stroke symptoms and Acute coronary Syndrome (ACS) symptoms such as chest pain. Patients with ACS symptoms are monitored for 24 hours and if no arrhythmias cardiac monitoring is discontinued. TIA/Stroke symptoms are monitored for 48 hours and discontinued if no arrhythmias.

The Registered Nurse will provide safe, compassionate, quality, person centred care and work in collaboration with patients/families/carers and a multidisciplinary team to achieve identified goals and outcomes.

* Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse with Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
* Demonstrated recent experience as a Registered Nurse in an environment appropriate to the relevant speciality.
* Demonstrated ability to provide safe compassionate quality care that is culturally responsive.
* Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and engage with patients/consumers, carers and the multidisciplinary health care team to identify and ensure responsiveness of care needs.
* Demonstrated evidence of the use of critical thinking as it relates to the delivery of evidenced based nursing care.
