Are you an experienced counsellor with a passion for making a difference? Look no further At Quit Tasmania we are on the lookout for a dynamic individual to join our Quit Services team, as we move to increase cessation support services for smoking and vaping. This is a unique opportunity to work with one of Tassie's leading not-for-profits, where your role will truly have a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of Tasmanians.
What you'll do
As a Quitline Counsellor (0.6 FTE, fixed term to 30 June 2027 in line with DoH funding) you'll be responsible for providing high quality, evidence-based behavioural counselling, advice and information to Tasmanians who smoke and/or vape via the Quitline and other service delivery channels (eg instant messaging, SMS). The role also provides information and advice to health professionals, community service workers and others seeking to support people through their quitting journey.
About you
We are looking for someone who has a compassionate approach, can effectively communicate through various channels, tailoring their approach to meet the needs of each individual, works well in a team-oriented environment and manages their time effectively. They will also be committed to continuous learning, with a willingness to stay up-to-date on the latest research and best practices in smoking and vaping cessation.
Previous counselling experience and applicable qualifications in counselling, psychology, social work or a related field are requirements of the role. It is highly desirable that they have previous experience supporting young people aged 12 to 24 years, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged to apply. Whilst this is a part time role, the Quitline is open outside usual business hours, so the ability to undertake rostered work within our operational hours (8am-8pm) will also be required.
Why join us?
Smoking is the single greatest preventable cause of death and disease, and with Tasmania having one of the highest smoking rates in Australia, our aim at Quit Tasmania is to eliminate the harms of smoking and vaping by preventing uptake and supporting all Tasmanians to quit for good.
