Justice Health sets the standards for the delivery of these services, monitors service delivery, and manages contracts with service providers across public prisons and Youth Justice facilities.
Justice Health works in collaboration with the other DJCS areas such as Corrections Victoria and Youth Justice, as well as the Department of Health to fulfil these functions. This collaboration helps to ensure that people in custody are effectively transitioned back to the community from prison.
About the Role

You will be accountable for leadership, coordination and management of a team responsible for undertaking reviews into the health care provided to prisoners who pass in custody, conduct incident reviews, undertake complex analyses identifying emerging risks, assessing thematic issues and monitoring trends, and work collaboratively with health service providers and JARO to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
Reporting to the Director, Health Services and Clinical Governance, the Principal Review Officer will:
- Provide direction and management in assessments and lead complex review activities, including but not limited to review of health care delivery, policies and procedures and interviews of health staff in relation to deaths in custody, reviews of major incidents in the youth justice and corrections systems, and thematic reviews.
- Prepare and present high-quality reports, briefings and correspondence on the findings of assessments, complex death, incident and thematic reviews.
- Facilitate, coordinate and analyse complex data and information to identify emerging issues and trends, and provide innovative and proactive recommendations to influence and contribute to improvements in the youth justice and corrections systems utilising a risk-based approach.
