About the Organisation
Noosa Flexible School is a Catholic School in the Edmund Rice tradition. It is one of 22 Flexible Schools throughout Australia that provide a full‐time, multi‐year secondary education program for young people who have disengaged from mainstream schooling. Enrolled students may have complex educational and social needs; the school responds with flexible and innovative teaching and learning practices, including vocational planning and the development of social connectedness.
The purpose of a Flexible School is to provide young people with a varied and holistic set of learning experiences that support them in identifying and pursuing an individual transition to adulthood, employment, further education, training and social connectedness.
About the Role
The Youth Worker reports to the Area Principal or delegate.
* Support effective learning and teaching programs for young people in both middle and senior phases of secondary education.
* Promote the physical health and emotional well‐being of the young people.
* Develop and implement the school's strategic and operational plans regarding the function of your role as youth worker.
* Maintain a supportive and inclusive school environment.
* Build relationships with the school, staff, students, families, industry and community organisations to plan, act and achieve outcomes.
* Facilitate young people's engagement with relevant external agencies through appropriate referral pathways and stakeholder meetings.
Key Responsibilities
Essential Requirements
* A Working with Children Clearance Notice
* Current driver's licence (essential) or Light Rigid licence (highly desirable)
* Previous experience in the youth sector with knowledge and understanding of local First Nations communities
Highly Desirable
* An understanding of and commitment to principles of social justice
* Understanding of current youth work practice, trends and issues in service provision to marginalised young people, particularly within the alternate education sector
* Sound verbal and written communication skills, including participation in meetings, report writing and negotiation
* Computer skills – word processing, Internet; capability to develop or use database systems
* Proven ability to work autonomously and in an integrated manner as a member of a multidisciplinary team
* Qualifications at Degree, Diploma or Certificate level with Social Work/Youth Work experience (or working towards a qualification) or equivalent life experience
