Raw Honey
Beekeeper
USD 45,000 - USD 65,000 a year
Posted: 5 October
Offer description

A unique opportunity to work respectfully in the bush. We are a family-owned migratory beekeeping operation currently running 1500 hives. We produce quality artisan raw honey, quality bulk eucalypt honey and offer spring pollination services. We are proud to be one of the few Certified Organic apiary operations running both conventional and Certified Organic hives.

With the arrival of Varroa Mite in Victoria our daily operations have become more demanding. Varroa brings a new challenge to beekeeping and in order to keep our hives healthy we must be proactive in how we manage this new pest. We are seeking a capable person to assist the current team with a focus on Varroa Management. This role is integral to our selective breeding program; we hope this program will ultimately allow us to continue keeping bees without the use of synthetic chemicals. By embarking on our own livestock improvement program, we start an exciting new phase in our beekeeping journey.

This is a new role for which there is opportunity for ongoing employment. Although the focus will be varroa monitoring and control, varroa will require a team effort and most tasks will be completed as a team, especially during this learning phase. Other tasks will include general honeybee husbandry, honey harvesting, extraction and packing, beehive equipment assembly as well as occasional honey order picking and deliveries as required. The job is based at Marraweeney VIC however our apiaries migrate throughout Victoria and southern NSW, including many quite remote forest areas.

Although experience within a commercial apiary operation is desired, it is not essential. We are keen to hear from you if you have a passion for bees and honey and have the drive to learn the ropes. Most importantly you will be a good fit for our team, previous beekeeping experience is not actually necessary.

The person:

* Hard-working hands-on lateral thinker.
* Fit and strong for lifting honey boxes whilst working outdoors in summer heat.
* Have a love for the great outdoors and be happy to camp out and work away at the bees for a few days at a time.
* Not mind getting stung as it will happen.
* Have an eye for detail and interest in the workings within the hive.
* Ability to carry out tasks in a team and to work autonomously.
* Safely handle and administer varroa treatments utilising correct PPE
* Willingness to learn new skills, obtain licences, certificates or registrations as necessary for the role.
* Flexibility and adaptability, including the ability to manage a changing workload and changing priorities.
* An ability to manage a high and varied workload, work under pressure, organise priorities, meet deadlines and take initiative.
* Be Punctual.
* Able to perform basic administrative skills relevant to business, beekeeping and factory operations.
* Demonstrate ability to operate, monitor, maintain and repair equipment as required will be advantageous.
* Candidates must be Australian citizens or permanent residents with valid work rights in Australia.

Essentials:

* Maintenance of a current car driver licence
* Medium Rigid Truck licence (to be obtained by end of probation period)
* Forklift licence (to be obtained by end of probation period)

The role:

* Assist with day-to-day beekeeping operations, with the aim to be independent in most tasks.
* When appropriate, use own initiative to achieve effective outcomes.
* Undertake all stages of the honey extraction process, including loading, operating and monitoring automated and non-automated machinery and cleaning equipment.
* Assemble beehive components and other similar tasks as required.
* Load and Move bees independently (MR truck licence) with Apijuneda boom loader.

Due to the nature and seasonality of the business a flexible approach to taking leave is required.

Applicants must not be allergic to bees. While stings can be largely avoided it is not possible to avoid them completely.

Applications will be considered as we receive them. Position to commence immediately.

To be best considered for the role, please respond to the key points above and supply a current CV.

Applications close Monday 27th October, 2025.
