We are seeking an experienced and highly customer‐focused Application Engineer with a strong foundation in industrial automation and control. This pivotal role requires a unique blend of deep theoretical understanding of automation principles, hands‐on practical expertise with Siemens technologies, and exceptional communication skills to drive successful customer engagements. You will work in close collaboration with our sales team, acting as the primary technical expert throughout the sales cycle. Your ability to translate complex automation concepts into compelling customer benefits, demonstrate practical solutions, and address critical challenges will be instrumental in securing new business and ensuring our customers achieve their desired operational outcomes, even under high‐pressure situations.
Responsibilities
* Strategic Pre‐Sales Technical Support: Serve as the lead technical resource for the sales team, providing expert guidance and support from initial customer engagement through to project close. This includes participating in sales calls, discovery sessions, and presenting technical solutions for industrial automation.
* Customer Needs Analysis & Solution Design: Work closely with customers and the sales team to deeply understand their operational processes & challenges, and business objectives. Based on this, design, propose, and technically validate comprehensive Siemens industrial automation solutions (e.g., PLC, HMI, SCADA, Drives, Industrial Networks, Robotics, Digitalization platforms) that directly address customer pain points and deliver measurable value.
* Application Development & Proof‐of‐Concept: Apply both theoretical knowledge and practical skills to configure, program, and integrate various components of Siemens automation platforms (e.g., SIMATIC PCS 7, TIA Portal, SIMATIC S7, WinCC, SINAMICS Drives, SIMOTION). Develop and present compelling proof‐of‐concept demonstrations to showcase the efficacy and benefits of our automation solutions.
* Hands‐on Technical Demonstrations & Support: Lead and execute hands‐on activities such as product demonstrations, system configuration showcases, PLC/HMI programming examples, industrial network setup, and system integration scenarios to build customer confidence and illustrate solution capabilities.
* Advanced Technical Troubleshooting (Pre‐Sales Context): Address complex technical inquiries and potential objections during the sales process, leveraging deep diagnostic skills to provide clear, concise, and accurate technical explanations that reinforce Siemens' expertise and reliability in automation.
* Technical Content Creation: Develop and customize technical presentations, white papers, application notes, and competitive analyses to support sales initiatives and educate customers on Siemens' industrial automation value proposition.
* Customer Relationship & Trust Building: Act as a trusted technical advisor, building strong, long‐lasting relationships with customer engineering, operations, and IT teams by consistently delivering expert guidance and demonstrating practical problem‐solving capabilities in automation.
* Market & Product Intelligence: Stay current with the latest advancements in industrial automation, digitalization trends (e.g., Industry 4.0, IoT, AI), control theory, industry standards, and the competitive landscape. Provide valuable market feedback to product management and development teams.
* Collaboration with Sales: Maintain continuous and proactive communication with the sales team, aligning on strategy, identifying technical blockers, and jointly developing plans to advance opportunities.
Requirements
* Have a passion for technology and seeing it through from a challenge to application and solution to generate real‐world impact.
* Engineering degree or relevant experience in Automation, Electrical, Mechatronics, Control Systems Engineering or a closely related technical field.
* Proven track record of successful collaboration in a team environment to achieve business objectives.
* Strong grasp of industrial automation architectures, PLC/DCS programming principles, HMI/SCADA design, industrial networking concepts (e.g., PROFINET, PROFIBUS, OPC UA), motion control, and control theory.
* Extensive Practical Experience: Proven hands‐on experience ideally with Siemens industrial automation hardware and software, including:
o SIMATIC PLCs (S7‐300/400/1200/1500) and TIA Portal.
o SIMATIC HMI and WinCC (Comfort/Advanced/Professional).
o SCADA systems (e.g., WinCC, PCS 7).
o SINAMICS Drives and motion control systems.
* Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, control narratives, and functional design specifications.
* Demonstrated ability to manage and resolve complex technical issues effectively under high‐pressure situations.
* Exceptional problem‐solving, analytical, and diagnostic skills, with a strong emphasis on practical application and achieving customer outcomes.
* Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non‐technical audiences, influencing decision‐makers.
* Strong interpersonal skills, a customer‐centric approach, and a proactive, collaborative mindset.
* Ability to travel domestically and potentially internationally.
