Where you'll be working
SESLHD is one of the largest local health districts in Sydney, covering a geographical area of 468 square kilometres from Sydney’s central business district, the beaches from Bondi to Cronulla and down to the Royal National Park. We deliver health care to around 930,000 residents across the local government areas of Woollahra, Waverley, Randwick, Bayside, Georges River and the Sutherland Shire. We also provide a key role in helping residents of Lord Howe Island. Our staff also deliver high quality health care across a variety of community-based services ranging from pre-birth to palliative care.
The role
The Research Ethics and Governance Officer is responsible for undertaking comprehensive governance including Site Specific Assessment of all research activities and for providing ethics review and secretariat support to the SESLHD Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC).

Selection Criteria
* Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or demonstrated equivalent experience in a previous research ethics or governance role.
* Demonstrated broad understanding of the health and medical research environment in NSW and Australia.
* Sound understanding of legislation, codes and guidelines relevant to research ethics and governance, in particular the NHMRC National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research (2007), the Privacy Act (1988) and supplementary guidelines, the Human Tissue Act (1983) and the Therapeutic Goods Act (1989).
* Demonstrated ability to interpret legal documents and draft complex documents related to research activities.
* High level understanding of university, hospital and government research environments and processes.
* Highly developed and effective communication, interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
* Demonstrated effective time management skills with the ability to prioritise workload to meet conflicting deadlines.
* Demonstrated experience in using Microsoft Office applications (including Word, Excel and Publisher), online databases for research data management and web-based applications.
