The Role
To assist the Local Court Magistrate with the diversion of defendants who have or are suspected of having a mental illness, mental disorder or a cognitive impairment from the Criminal Justice System into the community.
Essential Criteria
1. Clinical Nurse Consultant Grade 2
2. Must hold a current authority to practice as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia.
3. Current full registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
4. Five years full-time equivalent post-registration clinical experience, with at least 3 years in an acute mental health setting.
5. Must hold a relevant post-graduate qualification in mental health and a current NSW Driver Licence.
6. Occupational Therapist Level 4
7. Must hold qualifications recognised for registration with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia and be generally registered.
8. Five years full-time equivalent post-registration clinical experience, with at least 3 years in an acute mental health setting.
9. Social Worker Level 4
10. Minimum Bachelor's degree in social work eligible for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (or equivalent).
11. Five years full-time equivalent post-registration clinical experience, with at least 3 years in an acute mental health setting.
* Clinical Psychologist
* Four-year degree in psychology with Honours (or equivalent).
* General registration with AHPRA and five years full-time equivalent post-registration clinical experience, with at least 3 years in an acute mental health setting.
Service Context
Statewide Community and Court Liaison Service (SCCLS) delivered by Justice Health NSW offers mental health support in Local Courts across NSW. The service conducts thorough evaluations and, when suitable, provides recommendations to magistrates for diverting individuals from custody into appropriate treatment options. The SCCLS is expanding to include 58 local courts in rural, regional, and metro locations.
