Engineering Team Leader - NSW Public Safety (P25)

Role Overview
As Engineering Team Leader, you’ll provide technical and people leadership to a highly capable engineering team supporting the NSW Public Safety Network (PSN). Your focus will be the ongoing operation, maintenance and evolution of the Motorola P25 network, ensuring service continuity for organisations that rely on dependable, real‑time communications.
You’ll work closely with internal engineering teams, customers and technology partners, acting as both a trusted technical authority and a calm, decisive leader when complex issues arise.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and mentor a team of engineers, managing workload, priorities and capability development
* Provide authoritative technical leadership for Motorola P25 architecture and support tools
* Oversee fault restoration, complex troubleshooting and systemic issue analysis
* Collaborate with customer engineering teams and key vendors, including escalation to Level 3 support
* Support network coverage investigations, site infrastructure and power systems
* Review system documentation and contribute to estimates, quotes and out‑of‑scope activities
1. Provide guidance to subcontractors and support site acceptance, testing and commissioning activities
2. Participate in the on‑call roster to support critical after‑hours response
About You
You’re a seasoned telecommunications or critical communications engineer who brings both depth of technical expertise and confidence in leading others. You’re known for your ability to diagnose complex system issues, guide teams through high‑pressure situations and translate technical complexity into clear, practical outcomes.
Your experience will include
* Deep working knowledge of Motorola P25 networks, including architecture, interoperability, protocols and support tooling
* Strong capability across DC power systems, generators, batteries and site infrastructure
* Leading technical teams, coaching capability and setting clear expectations
* Confident communication with customers, vendors and internal stakeholders
* Structured planning, prioritisation and documentation in operational settings
Qualifications & Requirements
* Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Electronics, Telecommunications) or equivalent experience
* Extensive experience in mobile or critical communications engineering environments
* Australian Citizenship with ability to obtain and maintain Baseline Security Clearance
* Current driver’s licence and availability for site travel and on‑call support
