About the Role
As a Technical Officer (TGO 1), you will play an important role in delivering a high-quality, multi-disciplined regional pathology service that supports timely and accurate patient diagnosis. Working both independently and as part of a collaborative laboratory team, you will apply your technical knowledge and practical expertise to perform a broad range of routine testing activities across Microbiology, Haematology, Clinical Chemistry and Transfusion Medicine. This is a hands‐on role where your skills, attention to detail and commitment to best practice will directly contribute to reliable and efficient diagnostic outcomes for the local community.
In this diverse position, you will be involved in specimen reception and identification, patient collections including venepuncture and paediatric sampling, sample preparation and dispatch, and the analysis and review of quality control material in line with established laboratory protocols. You will operate and maintain laboratory equipment, assist with consumables and specimen management, and ensure accurate record‐keeping and timely reporting of results within agreed KPIs. With a strong focus on safety, quality and continuous improvement, you will contribute to technical project work while maintaining high professional standards and supporting a positive, team‐oriented laboratory environment.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will hold a Diploma or Advanced Diploma in an approved and recognised qualification. You are a motivated and detail‐oriented professional who enjoys working in a laboratory environment and contributing to a high‐performing team delivering quality diagnostic services.
* Qualified & Knowledgeable – Diploma or Advanced Diploma with sound knowledge of laboratory principles, general science and Work Health and Safety legislation.
* Technically Capable – Strong numerical, keyboard and computer skills, with the ability to follow written and verbal instructions and manage variable workloads within defined timelines.
* Team‐Focused Communicator – Proven ability to work effectively within a team, demonstrating excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
* Reliable & Professional – Able to work under limited supervision, prioritise tasks, use initiative to solve problems, and handle confidential information with discretion and integrity.
