Role
General Work Description:
Positions at this level work under routine direction and undertake a variety of duties which may include clerical, administrative, library and curriculum support within a variety of school settings.
Skills and Attributes:
Staff are expected to develop, through work assignments, a knowledge and understanding of the operations, procedures, vision & values and rules governing the work of GWSC.
Staff at this level will have an aptitude for clerical, keyboard, cataloguing and administrative work and the capacity to develop knowledge of how the school functions (including activities and operational procedures) together with a basic knowledge of workplace procedures that foster a collaborative workplace environment.
Staff at this level are expected to have the ability to work harmoniously with students and staff as part of a team.
Staff at this level are expected to become competent in required individual tasks after a limited period of training or experience.
Staff at this level are expected to have good communication skills to enable them to undertake limited liaison or coordination activities or to make enquiries to obtain or compile information pertaining to their role.
Staff at this level would be required to have appropriate communication skills required to assist the delivery of educational programs, particularly when working directly with students.
Responsibilities
Typical Duties & Knowledge
Duties will be performed under the direction of the Teacher/Librarian.
These include:
* Service and support to all staff, students and local community.
* Communicate in a friendly, supportive, efficient manner with all members of the GWSC community.
* Answering telephone and external queries. Ability to satisfy needs of person calling in a courteous, friendly manner and ensure messages are conveyed as soon as possible to the person concerned.
* Set up opening procedures & circulation desk to begin the day.
* Daily housekeeping and backup of all computer records.
* Knowledge of access IT information management system desirable.
* Liaise with Business Manager re invoices and order in relation to resources bought by faculties and the library.
* Keep up to date records (database) of annual subscriptions and costs associated with the Information Services.
* Keep up to date information of recurring annual purchases required by Faculties.
* Computer data input. Ability to enter data so that the library collection is accurately recorded and accessible to all users.
* Maintenance and recording of newspaper, periodical and exam collection. Ability to process the newspaper and periodical collection accurately so that it is accessible to those who reed and use it.
* Ability to liaise with customer support for library system & IT support (GWSC) to maintain the information management systems & equipment operating within the library.
* Ability to organize and plan effectively. Needs to be flexible to be involved in a range of information services & activities.
* Attend and participate in library meetings and networks meetings (where relevant).
* Act as a back up to library desk duties when timetabled library assistants are absent.
* Processing of all news books and non book items. Ability to accurately carry out these tasks.
* Maintenance and repairs of all book and non book items.
* Assist with displays and exhibitions.
* Shelving and maintenance of equipment to keep the premises tidy and neat.
* Participate in the stocktaking of library assets. Ability to follow procedures to ensure that all library assets are accounted for on a yearly basis.
* Managing the overdue borrowing lists.
* Have a sound knowledge of children's literature and current releases.
* Sound knowledge of Library procedures.
* Any other roles and responsibilities as directed by the Teacher/Librarian
