Education Assistant - Special Needs - Specialised Learning Program - Autism, Department of Education, Western Australia.
Westfield Park Primary School (PS) is establishing a pool of enthusiastic and dedicated Education Assistants for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies that may arise during the 2026 school year.

Role and duties
The Education Assistant role involves working with staff to deliver planned education programs and promote an inclusive learning environment.
Responsibilities include:
Monitor students' progress toward educational goals and provide feedback to the teacher.
Develop leadership capabilities to assist in mentoring and coaching of other Education Assistants.
Work with students with autism spectrum disorder (across K-6) and support those with complex behaviours, mental health concerns, vision/hearing impairment, diabetes and learning difficulties.
Utilise direct and explicit instruction approaches, including UFLI, Zones of Regulation and trauma-informed practices where relevant.
Maintain detailed documentation and respond quickly and calmly to situations, including working with small groups and/or individual students in the classroom or other settings.
Qualifications and experience
Ideal applicants will have:
Experience working with students with autism spectrum disorder in K-6 settings.
A strong understanding of de-escalation strategies and health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
Knowledge of low-key behaviour management strategies.
Ability to model good practices for other Education Assistants and demonstrate a commitment to learning and professional development.
Ability to work with a variety of technologies and to keep detailed records.
Eligibility and training
To work with us, you must:
Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with work rights for the term of the appointment.
Obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start; and
Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education's Screening Unit before you start.

Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills and ability to interact with students with special needs, liaise with parents, teachers and community members, and support teachers in understanding students where necessary.
Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills to contribute to a professional team and support development of education programs (including special education and therapy programs where implemented).
Demonstrated ability to assist with implementation and evaluation of education programs, including special education and, if required, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
Demonstrated organisational skills to deliver effective education programs and provide feedback to teachers or psychologists.
Demonstrated ability to assist with the general health and wellbeing of students.
