Purpose of the Role
Maranoa Regional Council is seeking an experienced BiosecurityOfficer to lead and deliver Council's biosecurity programs across the region.
This role takes ownership of managinginvasive animals and plants, driving proactive compliance with the BiosecurityAct ****, and leading education and engagement initiatives that strengthenlandholder and community biosecurity outcomes.You'll work closely with landholders, government agencies, and internalteams to reduce biosecurity risks, enhance sustainable land management, andprotect the region's environmental and economic resilience.
Key Responsibilities
Leadthe planning and delivery of strategic biosecurity and pest managementprograms.Providehigh-level advice on emerging biosecurity risks and priorities.Coordinateprojects and resources to achieve measurable outcomes for the region.
Operational Delivery
OverseeCouncil's biannual Coordinated Baiting Program and other pest managementoperations.Conducttargeted field inspections, surveillance, and control programs.Managebiosecurity-related grants and ensure compliance with projectrequirements.
Regulatory & Compliance
Monitorand enforce biosecurity legislation in line with Council and statepriorities.Supportlandholders to understand and meet their General Biosecurity Obligation(GBO).
Prepareevidence-based reports and compliance documentation.
Stakeholder & Community Engagement
Buildand maintain strong working relationships with landholders, communitygroups, and partner agencies.Deliverpractical education and awareness programs to improve local biosecuritycapability.RepresentCouncil at industry forums and regional committees.
Policy & Administration
Assistwith the development and review operational policies, procedures, andplans.Maintainaccurate field and administrative records.Preparefunding applications, reports, and performance reviews that supportcontinuous improvement.
