About This Role
The Communications Manager brings to life our mission—connecting hearts and minds through powerful storytelling and purposeful cross platform messaging, whilst maintaining our unwavering commitment to child safety. The role is responsible for executing comms across channels, aligned to our strategy that inspire action, build trust, and deepen engagement with our supporters, partners, and team. From heartfelt stories of impact to essential updates, the role ensures every message reflects our values and drives our mission forward. The role also acts as a point person for key media agencies, playing an important facilitation role.
The Communications Manager role will combine exceptional planning with hands-on copy and content creation. The successful candidate will be a creative storyteller, strong project manager, and experienced communicator who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can manage day-to-day content delivery. They will also be confident in using data and insights to guide decision-making and optimise digital communications for maximum impact.
The Communications Manager sits in a Brand and Marketing team of approximately 10 people and has supervising responsibility over two staff members.
Key Responsibilities Of The Role Include
* copy creation and editorial calendar management,
* internal and stakeholder communications,
* management and coaching of a small team of communications professionals, and
* data, innovation and operational excellence that maximises efficiency and effectiveness.
This role is initially offered as a 12-month maximum-term contract position, based at Make-A-Wish's head office in Richmond (Victoria), with flexibility to work-from-home 2-3 days per week.
About You
You are purpose-driven and passionate about the power of great communication. You thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative team and love turning briefs and ideas into copy that drives action and builds trust. From creating impactful fundraising copy to crafting branded collateral to managing the editorial calendar, you have the versatility all great communicators have.
You bring a warm, proactive attitude to your work and are confident writing for different audiences and channels. You may have experience in communications, journalism, marketing or content strategy — and have a great understanding of using brand voice.
You're comfortable juggling multiple priorities, managing deadlines and guiding others. You know when to take initiative and when to collaborate — always striving for the best supporter experience.
We'd love to hear from you if you have:
* 3+ years of experience in communications, marketing or content strategy, with hands on copywriting experience,
* exceptional writing and editing skills across formats and channels, and know how AI can support,
* an understanding of the nuance, language, and best practices of not-for-profit marketing and communication
* strong organisation and stakeholder management abilities,
* confidence using CMS, email platforms and analytics tools,
* high attention to detail and problem-solving skills, and
* a team-first approach and passion for creating great supporter experiences.
