**EL1 - Assistant Director, Reading Room Services**:

- Manage the National Library's reading rooms and information and research services
- Lead, support and manage a team of library professionals to support face to face and online users of Library services
- Work at one of the world's leading libraries and national cultural institution

The National Library of Australia is seeking to fill the important front-of-house role of the **Assistant** **Director, Reading Room Services (EL1). **You will be responsible for managing the National Library's Reading Rooms, providing access to Library material including newspapers and family history in the Main Reading Room and Asian collections, pictures, manuscripts, maps, ephemera and oral history in the Special Collections Reading Room.

This is a varied role. Some of your duties will do include:

- Managing the strategic development of information and research services for the National Library of Australia
- Overseeing the administration and operation of the Main Reading Room and Special Collections Reading Rooms
- Overseeing rostering and scheduling activities for all reading room services and the Foyer Information Desk
- Overseeing access to all collections via the Main Reading Room and Special Collections Reading Room
- Overseeing the Reading Room Staffing Program
- Ensuring the implementation of quality and service standards relative to the operating environment.

Liaising with internal and external stakeholders you will also:

- Resolve problems relating to collection delivery and client services, particularly complex or sensitive issues
- Undertake research relevant to library collections and services
- Support the National Library of Australia's Reference services via:

- The Library's Reading Rooms
- Online and phone reference channels
- Develop and/or identify Learning Programs for Reading Room staff
- Develop research guides, blogs and web content.

The role requires regular evening and weekend work - undertaken during the Library's advertised reading room opening hours.

You will support a healthy and safe workplace environment and model ethical behaviours in line with the APS Code of Conduct and Values. You will promote these by undertaking change management, conflict resolution, coaching and managing the performance of your team and others.

To be successful in this role, you must hold qualifications or equivalent experience in Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences or Information Management.

Experience delivering onsite and online reference and information services is desirable.
