DOM’S BAR & LOUNGE is a vibrant cocktail bar and lounge, specializing in creative mixology, premium spirits, and a relaxed atmosphere for patrons to enjoy specialty cocktails, drinks, and light bites from the small kitchen. It is seeking a versatile and experienced Bar Attendant Supervisor (070499) to lead a small team and handle all aspects of daily operations. POSITION SUMMARY
The role requires an all-rounder who can juggle bar service, kitchen duties, openings/closings, and staff management. As a key player in the compact operation, Bar Attendant Supervisor (070499) will ensure smooth service, compliance with regulations, and an exceptional experience for the patrons. The successful candidate reports to the Director or designated representative and will manage up to two staff members, fostering a positive team environment while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
Bar Attendant Supervisor (070499) is classified under Level 3 of the Restaurant Industry Award 2020 (Food and Beverage Supervisor), reflecting supervisory responsibilities including staff coordination, training, and stock control for the bar. * Openings and Closings: Perform daily opening and closing procedures, including setting up the bar and kitchen, conducting stock checks, handling cash reconciliation, securing the premises, and ensuring all equipment is operational and clean.
* Preparation
Work: Handle prep tasks such as stocking the bar with beverages and supplies, preparing garnishes and mixers, basic food preparation in the small kitchen (e.g., assembling simple dishes, heating items, and maintaining inventory), and ensuring readiness for service.
* Bar and Kitchen Operations: Oversee bar service, including mixing cocktails, pouring beers/wines/spirits, taking orders, and serving customers.
Manage the small kitchen to prepare and serve light meals, adhering to food safety standards and portion control.
* Staff Management: Supervise, train, and coordinate up to two team members (e.g., bartenders or kitchen assistants).
Prepare rosters to cover shifts adequately, provide guidance on duties, monitor performance, and address any issues promptly.
* Inventory and Cost Control: Monitor stock levels for beverages, food items, and supplies; place orders with suppliers to avoid shortages; track expenses to maintain profitability while minimizing waste.
* Customer Service and Compliance: Deliver outstanding service, respond to customer inquiries or complaints efficiently, and promote specials or events.
Ensure full compliance with health, safety, liquor licensing, and hygiene regulations, including maintaining a clean environment and enforcing policies on smoking, drugs, alcohol, bullying, harassment, and discrimination.
* Additional Duties: Assist with general bar and kitchen tasks as needed, follow all lawful directions from management, promote the venue's reputation, and contribute to a safe, welcoming space.
Perform higher-level duties such as basic menu planning or event coordination if required.
* Administrative Tasks: Maintain records for stock, sales, and staff hours; report any maintenance issues; and adhere to the venue's policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS & WORK EXPERIENCE
* Proven experience (at least 2-3 years) as a bar manager, supervisor, or senior bartender in Australia, preferably in a cocktail bar or similar venue with bar and kitchen elements.
* Demonstrated mixologist experience, including expertise in crafting specialty cocktails, knowledge of flavour profiles, and innovation in drink creation.
* Strong all-round skills in bartending (mixology, beer/wine/spirits knowledge) and basic kitchen operations, with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced setting.
* Appropriate level of training, including a supervisory course (e.g., for stock control and team coordination) and relevant certifications such as Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA), food handling/safety, and first aid.
* Hold a relevant qualification equivalent to an AQF Certificate II and 2 years of full-time (or part-time equivalent) work experience or hold a relevant qualification equivalent to an AQF
Certificate III with relevant post qualification work experience of at least one year (minimum 20 hours plus per week) or have at least 2 years of relevant full-time (or part?time equivalent) work experience as substitute for qualifications.
* Knowledge of Australian hospitality regulations, including the Fair
Work Act 2009, National Employment Standards, and the Restaurant Industry Award 2020.
* Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays, with shifts up to 38 ordinary hours per week (plus reasonable additional hours as needed).
* Physical capability to handle lifting, standing for long periods, and multitasking in a dynamic environment.
* Commitment to a zero-tolerance policy on drugs, alcohol impairment, bullying, harassment, and discrimination.
* Computer literacy for POS systems, basic inventory tracking, and rostering.
