The Role
The manager of the National Surveys and Data Science team in Tourism Research Australia (TRA - a branch within Austrade) is responsible for overseeing the preparation and publication of official domestic and international tourism statistics for Australia. This includes managing the International Visitor Survey (IVS) and the new Domestic Tourism Statistics (DoTS) which has replaced the National Visitor Survey (NVS) from 2025, as well as supplementary surveys where required.
Synthesis, interpretation and data dissemination activities are undertaken by the team, including preparation of web-based products to support distribution of the data. Technical support for industry, government and funding partners with evaluating and interpretating the data is also a key element of the work. This includes overseeing governance and guidance on how the data should be appropriately used.
Data for both domestic and international tourism statistics is collected through contracts with external providers and the person in this role is responsible for day-to-day management of these significant contracts.
