Job Description Role Objective The Payroll Manager is responsible for leading the end-to-end delivery of accurate and compliant payroll services to the workforce and ensures legislative compliance with all payroll-related obligations while driving continuous improvement in processes and systems. The position plays a pivotal leadership role by mentoring and developing a team of payroll officers, fostering a high-performance culture and embedding best practices. A key focus of the role is to streamline payroll operations through automation and system optimisation, while delivering timely analytical insights and reports to support strategic planning and operational decision-making. The Payroll Manager will partner closely with the wider business to align payroll functions with broader business goals. As the subject matter expert in payroll, the role provides expert advice and guidance across the organisation and actively contributes to the successful delivery of system implementations and cross-functional projects. Desired Skills and Experience Key Responsibilities Lead the end-to-end processing of weekly and fortnightly payrolls for over 3000 employees across multiple sites and states. Oversee payroll tax, PAYG, superannuation, workers’ compensation payments, FBT, and audit lodgments in line with national and state-based legislation. Lead and mentor a team of payroll officers, providing training and support to ensure high performance and accuracy, including continued training and coaching. Continuously assess and streamline payroll processes, identifying automation and efficiency opportunities. Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, industrial instruments, and taxation requirements across Australian jurisdictions. Provide analytical payroll reporting, forecasting and budgeting insights to support operational and executive decision-making. Partner with internal stakeholders including the Senior Leadership Team, Finance, HR and Operations to support business initiatives and deliver solutions. Drive systems implementation, including configuration of Time & Attendance and payroll software Act as subject matter expert on payroll-related matters, providing advice and guidance across the wider business Work closely with People and Culture and Finance on various projects and process improvements. About You: Extensive experience managing payroll operations in large complex organisations. Proven leadership in mentoring and developing payroll teams. Advanced knowledge of payroll systems including Ento, Humanforce and Emplive. Proven Advanced Excel skills, including VLOOKUPs and pivot tables. Strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation. Demonstrated experience in payroll project delivery, process improvement, and systems implementation. Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in high-pressure environments.
