This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled Environmental Management Professional to join our organisation. Based in Cairns, you will provide support to the Indigenous Ranger Units based in the lower Gulf of Carpentaria.

As a key member of our team, your role will involve providing scientific, technical and on-ground support to the Ngumari Waanyi Rangers. You will work closely with the Ranger Coordinator to develop and implement strategies, programs and projects for Indigenous land and sea management and community development.

Your responsibilities will include developing innovative strategies and programs to increase capacity and understanding of scientific methodologies. You will also facilitate the integration of Traditional Ecological Knowledge with contemporary natural resource management practice and western science in on-ground activities.

You will be required to travel regularly throughout the lower Gulf of Carpentaria region and work remotely in the field at times. A current Australian driver's licence and ability to drive a manual vehicle are essential for this role.

We are looking for someone with strong oral and written skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills and experience working in a team environment. You will have a demonstrated understanding of scientific principles, GIS mapping and data management skills, and experience working with Aboriginal communities.

Key Requirements:

* Tertiary level qualifications in Environmental Resource Management, Marine Biology, Environmental Science or equivalent

* Considerable experience working in the field

* Demonstrated experience and confidence in working with Aboriginal communities

* Strong negotiation and community consultation skills

* Ability to travel for up to two weeks at a time
">
* Current Australian driver's licence

Benefits:

This is a fixed-term, full-time position to 19 December 2025. The salary range is $82,394 to $98,280 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. Generous leave entitlements and on-site parking are also included.
