About Our Role
- Casual Maintenance Fitter opportunities – based at Simplot Ulverstone
- Provide mechanical expertise on monthly maintenance days and leave coverage
- Base rate of $50.71 p/h (including 25% casual loading)

Here at Simplot Global Food, we’re seeking applicants for the position Maintenance Fitter (Casual) for maintenance days and coverage opportunities at our Ulverstone-based frozen potato product manufacturing facility. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor - Mechanical, the Maintenance Fitter will provide mechanical fitting duties during monthly scheduled maintenance days, shutdowns and day work coverage as required.
Simplot Ulverstone has a proud history in the local community dating back to 1942. Located on the banks of the Leven River, the facility processes around 300,000 tonnes of potatoes from 165 Tasmanian growers each year and employs over 450 people. Site capabilities include fries (coated and uncoated) with different cuts, sweet potato fries, potato gems, and hash browns, in addition to 8 automated packing lines. Customers include leading QSR chains, major and independent supermarkets, and the food service industry.
What You Will Do
- Participate in and contribute to all site safety activities
- Identify faults and perform breakdown repairs to minimise downtime
- Inspect, test and maintain machinery and equipment in production areas and the wider plant
- Perform general plant and building maintenance work
- Work with various food processing fixed plant, including food preparation, cutting equipment, high-speed packaging equipment, robots, pumping systems, conveyors and sorting equipment, ensuring maintenance per the schedule
- Assist with preventative, predictive, breakdown and corrective maintenance activities
- Collaborate with on-site trades (electricians and contractors) to ensure job scope is completed to a high standard
- Contribute to continual improvement processes
- Work with automated equipment
- Use MEX (CMMS) and other Windows-based systems
- Assist with annual site shutdown maintenance activities
About You
- 100% commitment to health, safety and wellbeing in the workplace
- Current Cert III Engineering - Mechanical (or equivalent)
- Ability to provide annual leave coverage with appropriate notice
- Experience with preventative, predictive, breakdown and corrective maintenance, including fault finding and troubleshooting
- Experience with safety and quality systems and procedures
- Pneumatics and hydraulics experience is advantageous
- Sound judgment and decision-making ability
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and time management
- Ability to work proactively unsupervised
- Willingness to undertake a pre-employment medical assessment including urine-based drug and alcohol screening
