About the Role
The City of Ballarat is offering a fantastic opportunity to join the team responsible for maintaining two of the region's most iconic and well-loved recreational precincts—Lake Wendouree and Victoria Park. These spaces are central to community life, offering both passive and active recreation for residents and visitors alike.
As a Groundsperson, you'll contribute to the upkeep and enhancement of these precincts through a variety of horticultural and maintenance tasks, including mowing, brush cutting, weed control, garden bed care, and tree planting. You'll also be involved in maintaining infrastructure such as pathways, boardwalks, signage, and aquatic features, while supporting events and ensuring public spaces remain safe, clean, and inviting.
This hands-on role is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, operating plant and equipment, and being part of a collaborative team. A proactive mindset, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to safety and customer service are key to success in this rewarding and dynamic environment.
About You:
You're a dependable and enthusiastic team player who takes pride in maintaining public spaces and delivering meaningful outcomes for the community. With practical experience in horticulture, parks, and/or waterway maintenance, you're confident in operating mechanical plant and hand tools safely and effectively. You also bring a strong understanding of health and safety practices relevant to outdoor work environments.
Your qualifications include a Certificate III in Horticulture or Parks and Gardens (or equivalent), along with a Victorian Driver's Licence, Boat Operators Licence, and a Certificate in Farm Chemical Handling. You're capable of working independently when required, and your sound literacy and numeracy skills support accurate record-keeping and task execution.
Additional desirable qualifications such as a Marine Exemption 38 (Coxswain Grade 2) and Chainsaw Operation Level 1 Certificate will further strengthen your application.
Above all, you enjoy working outdoors, thrive in a collaborative team environment, and are ready to make a visible and lasting contribution to Ballarat's most valued spaces.
