The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) is seeking an experienced Assistant Director to join our Freedom of Information team. This is a unique opportunity to shape and deliver impactful team management to support the legal services team to manage Information reviews.
The Information Access, Freedom of Information (FOI) team sits within the Information Release, Privacy and Legal Operations (IRPLO) Branch. The Freedom of Information team manages the Agency's FOI and PIA functions to ensure compliance with statutory timeframes and will practice build the function to improve Agency knowledge and contributes insights to improve the participant experience. The team is also responsible for the Agency’s management and response to complaints and external review requests made to the Office of Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
The key duties of the position include:
As the EL1 Assistant Director, Information Access you will lead the team managing high volume requests for information from internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:
• Leading the team in making decisions on various matters in accordance with the FOI Act.
• Supporting the FOI team and legal services team to manage Information Commissioner reviews.
• Providing advice on FOI matters in accordance with the FOI Act.
• Producing quality written correspondence for a range of audiences such as Board papers, media releases, reports for Parliamentary committees, and correspondence.
• Contributing to team capability uplift and practice building initiatives that promote best practice, meeting statutory timeframes and maintaining quality standards.
• Delivering training to the FOI and Participant Information Access (PIA) teams and Agency staff across several line areas to support FOI and PIA handling and awareness.
Expertise in Freedom of Information (FOI) and leading teams managing FOI functions.
• Experience in building large operational teams with a track record of enhancing performance and compliance.
• Organised, driven and able to exceed in a fast-paced work environment with competing priorities.
• Experience in delivery of administrative access to personal information and familiarity with Privacy Principles.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to develop and maintain stakeholder relationships and experience in navigating challenging conversations whilst providing accurate advice on sensitive matters.
• Highly motivated, resilient and be able to provide advice on moderately complex matters to both internal and external stakeholders in an empathetic manner.
Eligibility
While this role is ideally performed from Brisbane - QLD, Geelong - VIC, Adelaide - SA, remote working arrangements may be considered. We intend to fill this role in an ongoing capacity, however non-ongoing roles up to 12 months with the possibility of extension up to 2 years may be offered.
Successful candidates will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police History check, Worker Screening check and/or Working with Children Check (where required) and provide evidence of Australian Citizenship.
