An opportunity has arisen for an experienced
Legal Counsel
to join a
high-performing, collaborative in-house legal team
within a national organisation delivering critical services across Australia's education ecosystem.
Reporting to the
Head of Legal
, you will work as part of a close-knit and highly collegiate team providing practical, commercial and risk-aware advice across a diverse and complex portfolio. This is a genuinely hands-on role suited to a mid level lawyer who enjoys variety, shared responsibility and contributing to work that matters.
The Role
* Reviewing, negotiating and advising on a high volume of
complex commercial contracts
, terms and conditions and procurement documentation
* Advising on
privacy, data, technology, cyber security and digital service agreements
* Supporting the ongoing development, refinement and implementation of
privacy and data policies
, procedures and training materials
* Partnering with stakeholders across the organisation through an allocated portfolio, building trusted relationships and enabling outcomes
* Contributing to large-scale, high-risk, nationally significant agreements over time, including rolling and long-term programs
* Taking a flexible, "pitch-in" approach to general commercial and business issues as they arise
This is a role for a lawyer who enjoys breadth, problem-solving and working collaboratively rather than operating in a narrow silo.
About You
* 4+ years' post-admission experience
in commercial contracting and advisory work
* Strong experience across
procurement, privacy, data and technology-related agreements
* Exposure to
government, statutory, not-for-profit or highly regulated environments
(or a genuine interest in adapting to one)
* The ability to navigate complexity, multiple stakeholders and high-impact decision-making
* A pragmatic, low-ego approach and a willingness to support team initiatives, process improvement and training
* Excellent communication skills and confidence working with senior internal stakeholders
