We are seeking a School Nurse/First Aid Officer to join our rapidly expanding school.
Full Time Term Time plus 2 days each school holiday period and 4 weeks annual leave.
POSITION SUMMARY
The School Nurse (SN) or First Aid Officer (FAO) will be joining the Business Unit at our rapidly expanding school. The SN / FAO is responsible for the effective delivery of first aid, triage and health support services to students, and occasionally to staff and visitors. The role supports all aspects of school activity including (but not limited to) the Health Bay, playground and class support, camps, sporting events, and emergency response across the campus.
The role requires high integrity, calm decision‑making under pressure, accurate record keeping, timely parent/guardian communication, and consistent adherence to child safety, privacy and confidentiality obligations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
First Aid & Student Care
* Administer first aid and care to ill or injured students, staff, and visitors.
* Triage presentations, determine appropriate next steps (return to class, rest and monitor, parent pickup, ambulance/medical escalation).
* Provide emergency medical response campus-wide, including during sports and co-curricular events, while remaining calm and communicating clearly.
* Support the School's emergency response processes as required, including participating in evacuations/drills and supporting the safety of persons in the Health Bay during alarms/evacuations.
Medication & Health Bay Processes
* Dispense/administer medication to students only in accordance with written instructions and appropriate authorisation, and maintain accurate records of medication administered.
* Ensure safe storage and management of medications, including monitoring expiry dates and ensuring emergency medications/equipment are ready for use (e.g., anaphylaxis and asthma first aid).
* Follow the School's Health Centre workflow (e.g., health centre passes and notifying classroom teachers as required).
Communication & Stakeholder Support
* Communicate promptly and respectfully with parents/guardians or emergency contacts regarding injury/illness, pickup requirements, and escalation to medical care.
* Coordinate with staff about student presentations and return-to-class recommendations, ensuring confidentiality and sharing only essential information.
* Contribute to a supportive, professional service culture where students, staff and visitors are treated with dignity and care.
Documentation & Confidentiality
* Maintain daily accurate student treatment records and incident logs (including follow‑up actions and return‑to‑school requirements).
* Maintain strict confidentiality and privacy of personal and health information; record information that is critical for first aid/health support and compliant record keeping.
* Review first aid arrangements using a risk-based approach (e.g., assessing campus needs for kits, facilities and trained staff).
Equipment & Health Bay Readiness
* Maintain Health Bay facilities and keep first aid supplies stocked, up-to-date, accessible, and ready for use, including kits for trips and events.
* Contribute to maintaining the readiness of emergency response items referenced in School processes (e.g., first aid equipment and emergency medication arrangements used at school).
Other Duties (Based on Skills & Experience)
* Provide input to the School's management of student health needs through health planning, risk assessment and management advice, and by supporting consistent school‑wide approaches to health care.
* Assist in developing, implementing, and reviewing individual health plans for students with diagnosed health needs, working with families and health professionals to ensure alignment with the School's operational context.
* Coordinate or provide training on health support topics (e.g., anaphylaxis, asthma, epilepsy, diabetes) to ensure enough staff are trained to meet student needs.
* Deliver nursing services within a defined governance framework, including consent, record keeping, and adherence to professional standards.
* Maintain professional registration requirements, continuing professional development, and practice in accordance with nursing standards and scope expectations.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
* Experience in schools, youth services, community health, GP, emergency, or paediatrics.
* Confident triage, escalation decisions, and calm response during emergencies.
* Experience maintaining confidential treatment logs, incident notes, and follow-up actions.
* Experience preparing first aid support for camps, excursions, and sporting events.
* Experience delivering or supporting staff training on health emergency responses.
* Experience supporting asthma, anaphylaxis, diabetes, epilepsy, or other chronic conditions.
* Experience managing authorised medication storage, administration, and documentation.
* Skills and experience using relevant software and technology, including TASS.
* Experience reviewing first aid needs, kit readiness, and stock expiry cycles.
* Experience developing or reviewing student health and emergency plans.

* Blue Card
* First Aid and CPR
* (School Nurse Only) Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse.
* (School Nurse Only) Ongoing CPD and required nursing competencies maintained.
ADDITIONAL NOTES
* The role requires occasional availability for flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, and school holidays, to support school events (including camps) and to address urgent matters.
* Must comply with the School's Child Protection Policy and reporting requirements.
* Additional Duties: The staff member may be required to undertake responsibilities and attend to tasks outside the usual scope of their role, as directed by the Principal or Business Manager, to support the needs of the school.
